Membership is open to law teachers, academics and scholars, law librarians and anyone who holds duties or interests in legal education in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. It is open to all school and faculties within tertiary institutions and Practical Legal Training Courses in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands employing teachers of law.
ALTA has three membership categories:
1. Individual membership
This is for law teachers whose faculty or school does not pay for their membership
2. Institutional A membership
The law teacher is the member but their faculty or school pays for their membership as part of a bundle with the memberships of its other law teachers.
3. Institutional B membership
The faculty or school itself is a member and its staff enjoy the same benefits as all other members of ALTA.

|Institutional membership - based on the numbers of staff. Faculties and schools who sign up 75% or more of their staff receive a $5 discount per member.||$85||$90|
